Holiday
home renovation abroad

Most holiday properties today are created in exactly the same way. A new apartment, an anonymous developer project, and an interior that could exist almost anywhere in the world. We are interested in a different approach. Instead of new developments, we prefer renovating houses that already exist — working with their original architecture, climate, materials, and relationship to the place itself.

Why renovate a house abroad instead of buying a new development

Most people looking for property abroad search for an investment apartment. It is the easier option. But the result is often a space without character and without any real connection to its surroundings. A house abroad does not have to function as an investment product used a few weeks per year. It can become a genuine place to live. Renovation is a more demanding process. But it also creates something far more personal, authentic, and valuable over time than a standard new build. At the same time, we work with existing structures instead of contributing to endless new construction that often puts pressure on local communities and landscapes.

How we approach house renovation abroad

Every place has its own logic, materials, climate, and way of living. On Lanzarote, we work with white walls, greenery, shadow, and volcanic landscape. In Portugal, with cork, textured materials, and a completely different quality of light. We are not interested in creating a universal “luxury interior.” What matters more is that the house naturally belongs to its environment. Very often, the authenticity of the place becomes the greatest value of the entire renovation.

Renovating foreign properties as work with atypical spaces

The houses we choose to renovate are often buildings most buyers would never consider. That is exactly what interests us. Old houses, unusual structures, unconventional layouts, or buildings originally designed for completely different purposes. We do not try to erase these limitations. On the contrary — they are often what makes the final space unique. We are not interested in apartments that function like hotel rooms that could exist anywhere in the world. We are interested in houses that belong to their place.

Why holiday homes do not need to feel like hotels

A holiday house does not have to feel like a sterile investment product. It can function as a real place to live — with materials that age naturally, a connection to its surroundings, and an atmosphere that new developments rarely achieve. That is why renovation interests us more than developer-led projects. In our view, a house abroad should not feel like a generic holiday apartment. It should have its own identity and a natural relationship to the place where it stands.

What clients usually consider before renovating a house abroad

Does it make sense to renovate a house abroad instead of buying a new development

Renovation is usually a more demanding process, but it allows for far more authentic living. At the same time, it works with existing structures instead of contributing to further large-scale development that often negatively affects local environments.

How does renovation abroad work

Every project begins with understanding the local context — architecture, climate, materials, and way of life. Only then do we begin designing the house and its interior.

How should local architecture and materials be approached

We do not try to create universal interiors. What matters more is respecting the character of the specific place — whether through shadow, greenery, stone, cork, or the original structure of the house itself.

Is renovating a house abroad more complicated than in the Czech Republic

Yes.
Every country works differently in terms of legislation, craftsmanship, construction culture, and material availability. That is why understanding the local context is essential instead of trying to impose a foreign way of living onto a completely different environment.

What type of property is suitable for renovation abroad

We are often interested in properties that are not perfect at first glance. Old houses, atypical structures, or buildings with a previous function often offer far more potential than standard developer projects.

How much does renovating a house abroad cost

The cost depends on the country, technical condition of the house, material availability, and the overall scope of the renovation. Every project is therefore evaluated individually within the context of its specific location.
